  4. Not sure if the world is ready for absolute truth. More importantly, are we ready to face consequences of that choice… If we are, that is quite an achievement 🙂

    1. Of course, it would be a tremendous task to accept the consequences. It may be at the risk of breaking up of friendships, relationships, etc. But at the end, it would be worth it all.. At least, there won’t be anyone faking around..

      1. The other day, when mum visited me, she checked my phone ( which is not a surprise anymore 🙂 ). She was going like, what happened to your phonebook. Only 18 contacts! Used to be over 3K Few years back… I told her, “I grew up”, and she being my mother understood it all 😉

          There are times when I feel I need to move away from humans, go somewhere on mountains alone.. But of course, this isn’t possible, since I have some duties/ responsibilities to fulfill, on this Earth.. & after all.. humans are “social” animals.. 🙂

    1. True. It’s hard to find a completely honest society. What a lovely & wonderful world would that be! But, maybe if we start taking the initiative by being true to our own self; don’t you think it’ll make some difference in this world? I know it’s only a very small scale difference; but it would really prove to be a large scale example. 🙂

      1. No I defo agree. Be the change you want to see in the world and all that. And though we obviously have the big wide world, some of the most important part of that is just the little world we create for ourselves. So I agree we should start and make our own bubbles a place of honesty.
        It’s difficult somewhat though because being honest does have consequences, and sometimes some things are not your secret to share.

        1. Of course, certain things need to be hidden away for some reason or the other.. but the ones where we could be honest – the ones wherein after some hours/ days (if not suddenly) of revealing the truth, you feel relieved – it’s worth trying out some drops of Veritaserum, isn’t it? 😉 😛

  8. It’s very dangerous place you imagining as truth is not for everyone to digest. I believe that truth is the most ferocious destroyer of all still it allows freedom like nothing else.

    PS: Veritaserum is nothing big conjured up by J. K. Rowling as if you try to dig dipper than you’ll find that “veritas” is Latin word for truth and serum is just that, serum. Btw I am fan of J. K. Rowling’s writing (not much fan of Potter though. Only exception is Snap story in last part)

    1. True that. The real truth is hard to digest. But the one who hides the truth – in a genuine attempt to cause less harm to others – unknowingly causes more harm to himself. He finds himself wound up within the fake flowery words. & this is when he considers truth to be more liberating. But there isn’t much courage/ bravery left within him. He’s kind of exhausted. That’s where the Veritaserum comes into action! 😉

      Yeah, Snape’s part towards the end of the series was a great plot-twist. I enjoyed it as well.. 🙂

  9. An uncontrollable “spilling out of the truth” may cause another set of problems as they will no doubt affect other people. Diplomacy, courtesy, sensitivity and respect all would suggest a very controlled and strategic “spilling out of the truth” to be far more effective. Perhaps a regular, but lower, dosage of veritaserum would be better!

    As for being true to oneself. Absolutely and very important because while you may hide aspects of yourself from others, you will never fool yourself. You cannot hope to be happy being the person you are if you are constantly trying to fool yourself.

    1. I agree.. A lower dosage should do the trick, maintaining the secrets that are not to be revealed in any case, perhaps for the purpose of security or anything as such!

      Of course. One’s you’re true to your own self, you have no fear; since you are well aware that you’re indeed doing a good thing, & trying your best not to harm others, in that attempt. 🙂

  10. As a kid, I supposed that truth serum would be a great way to learn stuff nobody knew. After all, if you could only say things that were true, then you could solve mysteries like the disappearance of the Roanoke colony. Couldn’t figure out why people didn’t use it for that sort of practical purpose.

    1. I really do understand your concern. But there, of course, are certain limitations on stuff that you use. Or else the other day, you may find Veritaserum used for every other worthless things. The negative side of it would be: people would become more & more paranoid.

      But yeah, I do agree with the point that it could be used for more practical purposes. Thanks for reading. 🙂

  11. Interesting. I’ve been considering going on a more radical “veritaserum” path in my writing…but I’m wondering if the consequences of that, which could be painful to other people in my life, would be worth it…?

    But I really do want to jump……

    1. I do not understand why anybody would consider writing something which could be painful to others. Perhaps simple changing of names would resolve the issue. Whereas documenting facts is clearly important for significant historical references, recounting personal experiences neither benefits, nor loses anything, with a change of names. For example: It may be important for a reader to know that you were abandoned at the altar during your wedding ceremony. The actual name of your partner is irrelevant to the story, unless you have a hidden agenda which involves shaming/hurting people.

To clarify, I certainly had no intention of using names (I cannot see a good justification for that either) but was worried the people would be able to guess who they were from reading the story. And I will freely admit that there would be no other reason for me to write it other than to vent about my feelings.

        1. Perhaps you could try out writing in a journal/ diary? 🙂
          Or even fiction comes to our rescue in such cases. Assign new names to your characters & create a new story considering the story of your life. You may even bring about a few moderations if necessary. & then add bits of philosophy (which always does help, at least in my case) & then start your own story in a code language. I hope you get my point. 🙂
