When I was younger, I always wanted to grow up. To grow up so I could be in charge, so I could make my own decisions. I had no say in any of the major decisions that my family took, because I was a child. I hated it.
Now that I’m elder though, I realize how hard it is, to be in charge. I get a say in those decisions, but I never say the say. I mean, today, when I get the chance to speak up, I don’t. I worry instead. I start thinking. I start thinking about the pros and cons. I start thinking about my past mistakes. I start worrying about the future.
As a child, when I looked at any adult I envied them for their independence, their freedom. Now as an adult in my early 20s when I get the same freedom and voice which I so long desired for, I do absolutely nothing about it. It’s only lying rotting day by day in some unseen, dark and damp corner of a long forgotten room.

Sounds like a normal adjustment to taking responsibilities in the real world to me! Yes it can come as a bit of a shock but, when a decision is necessary, you can either worry about what might go wrong … or what might go right. If something goes wrong, you can learn from the situation and avoid a repeat performance. Remember “A man who never makes mistakes, never makes anything.” Then there is my own mantra – “I won’t expect perfection from you until I can set the example. Everybody is quite safe for the immediate future!” 🙂

We honestly seem to forget this… And are totally comfortable not making anything 😅

I am in my late 40’s and I hate adulting a lot of times. Very little fun about it most days.

Hehe, yes! There are times when I love adulting. But in contrast there are also times when I would rather run far far away than take a decision. 😛

Don’t you just wish you could have the best of both worlds? Being an adult who doesn’t make decisions but still leading a completely stress free life cause somehow the universe seems to make the decisions for you? Well I can at least dream 😅

Whooaa … such an idea! You’ve made me wistful for this now, hehe.. 😛

Hello Suri, you’re not alone in your disillusionment with the whole ‘adulting’ business. But it does get better.

I can very well relate to what you have expressed 🙂 growing up was always a dream back in childhood. Today childhood is a dream that I yearn for

That’s the messed up thing! Wishing so bad to grow up and then growing up and wishing so bad to be a little kid again. So are we ever just going to stop wishing???

Nah! We’re humans after all! 😛 Very rarely satisfied. While not being satisfied can be seen as a positive sign in professional development, but if you’re unsatisfied emotionally, it’ll only take a toll on you..

So very relatable! The fact that responsibilities from all spheres of one’s life, personal and professional, are dumped at around the same point in a person’s life, makes adulting a challenge.

You are right, adulting can be difficult. No one looks forward to it unless they are a child and therefore have no experience in it. As someone who has been adulting for a long time I can say that there have been plenty of days when I wished I could leave all adulting up to someone else. If you have that opportunity, I would say take it!!!

Enjoy young adulthood, though. When you’re mid-life or older you pretty much feel free to say whatever you want. That makes it harder to be nice! 🙂

Haha, well thanks for the tip. I’ve never looked at it via the mid-life/ old age perspective before.
