Quarantine Musings #13

So finally, the rains have arrived in Mumbai! Of course they were here even before, but what are rains without a ‘heavy rainfall orange/ red alert’ or without news of waterlogging in the city?

I had to go outside yesterday, to buy essentials, amidst the rains. It was raining cats and dogs! It was fun though – to go outside after a long while and even more fun to feel the rain falling on you. I’ve always liked the rains (without the thundering, of course).

But one thing became quite clear to me, rains and face masks don’t go well together; unless you’re carrying an umbrella – which I wasn’t. I had a raincoat on and so my mask was completely drenched with rainwater by the time I returned home.

I haven’t traveled outside a 2 km (about 1.3 miles) radius since mid March due to the lockdown restrictions. When was the last time you traveled a farther distance other than for the usual ‘grocery shopping’?

What are Quarantine Musings? Just some random, trivial, light-hearted (or maybe even deep?) thoughts that pass through my mind during these lockdown days.

  1. I went out today to the local shopping area, not just for groceries but for some luxury toiletries. I went with my step daughter Ruby and her friend Charlotte. I was deeply shocked to see first hand the impact of the pandemic on the retail area. It is so run down. The mood of the other shoppers seemed very down, depressed, almost like zombies walking around.

    1. I know! I have been noticing the mood particularly of grocery shop owners, since the beginning of the lockdown. And they never once seemed happy to me. ๐Ÿ™ˆ I hope everything comes back to normalcy soon

  2. I live in Alberta, Canada and my husband would be considered near the top of the list as far as vulnerable people are concerned so the only trips I have taken since mid March have been to the grocery store, and occasionally the pharmacy. We have been having a fair bit of rain here as well, but nothing like the rains you have there. I like the rain as long as it isnโ€™t a hard rain that soaks you in seconds.

    1. Oh dear, I wish both you and your husband good health. Take care. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Well, here it’s raining heavily since the past few days. Today it was windy AND rainy! Usually when the winds are here, rains tend to go away. But not today. ๐Ÿ™ˆ

      1. It’s literally very bold of you to even hope for such a thing XD I dont see it closer. People in my city are careless enough to prove me right. But, I hope it gets over soon too. Nothing better than hopeless optimism (from When Breath Becomes Air)

  3. The monsoon! The last three days have been bliss (except the waterlogging part). But the upside of the WFH scenario is that you are spared from travelling for hours one end, so thatโ€™s good ๐Ÿ˜€

Also, I have realised that masks donโ€™t go well with anything remotely connected to moisture. I was using them for hours on end in Bangalore and never had a problem but the moment I came back to Mumbai, humidity made its presence felt, and not in a good way! I can only imagine what rains must be doing to it!

Stay safe and enjoy the rains! Cheers ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Oh yes, at least now that we are in doors, we don’t need to worry about getting stuck anywhere in the rains.

Haha, yes! Masks are of absolutely no use during rains if you don’t have an umbrella to protect it from getting wet.

      Take care. Happy Monsoon. ๐Ÿ˜Š
